Doing the valve adjustment on the Ghia today

I think one of the valves is going to need a bit more adjustment than the rest.

From what I can tell it’s not uncommon for the pushrod to come free due to a stuck valve after a long sit. On the surface everything seems okay so for the time being, I’m just going to make sure the pushrod isn’t bent, get the valve nice and loose, reinstall and see what happens. If that doesn’t do it, I’m probably in for a head rebuild.

It’s reasonably easy though right? I’ve only ever had overhead cams, so I don’t have much experience with them.

Resetting the pushrod should be super simple stuff, a head rebuild I’d have to hand off to somebody else because I just don’t have the tools for it.

Yeah looks like it’s time for pushrod tubes and seals, too. They are spring loaded and the o-rings and springs weaken. You will need to pull off your rockers and pull out all the pushrods. Then replace the tubes. Remember to keep your pushrods in order so they go back from where they came.

Thanks,I was wondering about those. My other reason for popping the valve covers in the first place was chasing a particularly flamboyant oil leak (read: lots of smoke) and they were next on my list of potential culprits, so I’ll get on those, too.
